The U.S. government's decision to operate with reduced staffing levels at its embassy in Cuba due to "health attacks" against employees stationed there will become permanent as of March 5, the State Department said.
In a statement, the department said the U.S. Embassy in Havana will operate as an unaccompanied post, which means no family members of embassy personnel will be allowed to reside there.
"The embassy will continue to operate with the minimum personnel necessary to perform core diplomatic and consular functions, similar to the level of emergency staffing maintained during ordered departure," the department said.
An investigation into the attacks continues, the department said, as the cause of the incidents remains unknown.
