The U.K.'s Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency has allowed Pfizer Inc.'s Viagra Connect to be sold without a prescription in pharmacies.
The regulator granted the reclassification Viagra Connect as a non-prescription pharmacy medicine to treat erectile dysfunction in men aged 18 and above.
Pfizer intends to launch the non-prescription version of Viagra in the U.K. in the spring of 2018.
Viagra Connect will be distributed only in pharmacies and will be given depending on the pharmacists' assessment of suitability for the patients with erectile dysfunction symptoms.
The Viagra tablet will still be available as a prescription medicine.
