Harvard Pilgrim Health Care Inc. President and CEO Eric Schultz has resigned due to personal misconduct issues, effective immediately.
In a letter of resignation submitted to the company's board, Shultz admitted he had "recently exhibited behavior that was inconsistent" with his "personal core values and the company's core values and code of conduct."
"During the past eight years as your leader, I was committed to fostering a workplace culture that was inclusive, welcoming and rooted in integrity and respect," Schultz wrote in his letter. "I made mistakes, and I’m truly sorry."
Michael Carson, chief business growth officer, was named president of the company and will assume responsibility for Harvard Pilgrim’s full daily operations and execution of its business plan. The board plans to name a new director later in the month to "help facilitate key external relations" during a period of transition.
As of March 31, Harvard Pilgrim had more than 181,000 members and brought in $188.1 million in net premiums written, according to regulatory filings.
