Report: Ukrainian central bank says governor plans to step down in future

National Bank of Ukraine confirmed that Governor Valeriya Gontareva intends to leave the post but denied reports that she had already written a letter of resignation, Interfax Ukraine reported April 6.

The regulator reportedly said Gontareva continues to serve as governor and her remarks to journalists earlier that day about the resignation only confirmed her plans to depart in the future.

Local media reported the same day that protesters attempted to prevent Gontareva from going to work and vandalized her house, Interfax Ukraine noted, adding that certain outlets, particularly those controlled by Ihor Kolomoisky, the former co-owner of recently nationalized PAO KB Privatbank, said she had submitted her resignation.

The Ukrainian central bank's press office reportedly said these actions constituted an attempt to exert pressure on the policy of the regulator and Gontareva herself.
