Disney CEO resigns from Apple's board; Salem Media Group reduces board size

S&P Global Market Intelligence presents a rundown of recent board changes in the U.S. technology, media and telecommunications industries.

* Central European Media Enterprises Ltd. appointed Peter Knag to its board pursuant to the right of Warner Media LLC to designate one less than the majority of the number of directors on the company's board under the terms of the framework agreement dated Feb. 28, 2014, between the company, Warner Media and Time Warner Media Holdings BV, according to a Sept. 18 SEC filing.

* Sparks & Honey named three new members to the company's advisory board. Brian Pierce, a scientist and global expert of futuristic technologies joined the board along with April Reign, a former lawyer who has become an activist. Nathan Walworth also joined the board. Walworth is a climate scientist, the company said Sept. 18. Sparks & honey, a technology-led cultural consultancy, is a part of the DAS Group of Cos., which is owned by Omnicom Group Inc.

* Salem Media Group Inc. reduced the size of the company's board in efforts to cut costs. Consequently, James Lewis, Jonathan Venverloh, Stuart Epperson Jr. and Edward Atsinger resigned from the company's board, effective Sept. 11. "During the last few years, Salem has faced several unique financial headwinds and we are looking for ways to cut costs while not impacting revenue," CEO Edward Atsinger III said in a Sept. 17 statement. "These resigning board members agreed that a reduction in board fees and travel costs would help improve the bottom line."

* Ram Krishnan resigned as CEO of NTN Buzztime Inc. Krishnan, who will also resign from the company's board, will become an adviser through Oct. 17, the company said. NTN said it reduced the size of its board to five directors. The news comes after NTN revamped its board and named Gregg Thomas its new chairman.

* Neal Grabell resigned as a director from iMedia Brands Inc.'s board, the company said Sept. 16. The company appointed Jill Krueger to its board, where she will also be chair of the board's audit committee. Krueger was the president and CEO of Symbria Inc. She also serves on the board of publicly traded Capital Senior Living.

* American Tower Corp. appointed Bruce Tanner as a director to its board. Tanner, who previously was executive vice president and CFO at Lockheed Martin Corp., serves on the board of SunTrust Banks Inc.

* Cable One Inc. named Kristine Miller to its board, the company said Sept. 16. Her election increases the size of the board to 10 members. Miller is senior vice president and chief strategy officer for eBay Inc. She will serve on the compensation committee.

* The Walt Disney Co. Chairman and CEO Bob Iger resigned from Apple Inc.'s board, effective Sept. 10, the same day that Apple disclosed the launch date and pricing of its Apple TV+ streaming service. Iger joined Apple's board as an independent director in 2011.

* Dominique Trempont will not stand for reelection to RealNetworks Inc.'s board at the company's annual meeting of shareholders, which is expected to be held Oct. 31, the company disclosed in a Sept. 13 SEC filing. The company expects Trempont to remain on the board until the 2019 annual meeting, completing his third three-year term as a director.
