Viacom Inc.'s MTV Studios teamed up with Facebook Inc.'s Watch platform to reimagine the classic MTV series "The Real World" for three new seasons.
Set to debut in spring 2019, the new seasons will be native productions in Mexico, Thailand and the U.S., respectively. Creator Bunim-Murray Productions LLC, a unit of France's Banijay Group SAS, is co-producing the new seasons with MTV Studios, with preproduction underway in each of the locations.
The series will be shown exclusively on Facebook Watch and will feature interactive and community features to allow fans to influence the course of the show and connect across mobile, desktop and Facebook's TV app.
Through Facebook Watch, Facebook users will be able to vote one housemate on to the show prior to airing. Fans will also have opportunities to connect with the cast through Facebook Live, Premieres and Watch Party.
"The Real World" series focuses on bringing viewers "the true story of seven strangers, picked to live in a house, work together and have their lives taped, to find out what happens when people stop being polite … and start getting real."
