Channel 4, Facebook ink co-production deal; TIM keen on tie-up with Open Fiber

TOP NEWS

* British public broadcaster Channel 4 (UK) is teaming up with Facebook Inc. to produce "Uncovered," a weekly news and analysis program that will be broadcast exclusively on Facebook Watch. The new show is set to premiere in 2019.

* Telecom Italia SpA CEO Amos Genish said the Italian operator is ready to partner with Enel SpA's broadband venture Enel Open Fiber SpA on creating a single network in the country, but prefers to keep control of the asset, Reuters reports. Genish's comments came after reports that Italian government is pushing for the creation of a single national telecom network.

UK AND IRELAND

* Sky PLC's Sky Sports has unveiled details of its coverage of the English Premier League, beginning on the 2019-20 season. The pay TV broadcaster is set to air 128 exclusively live Premier League matches per season, including weekend top pick matches.

* Manx Telecom PLC, a telecom operator on the Isle of Man, named Iarla Hughes as CFO, effective immediately. Hughes, who will also sit on Manx Telecom's board, joins the company from International Aerospace Coatings Holdings LP where he has been serving as finance chief and company secretary.

GERMANY, SWITZERLAND AND AUSTRIA

* Germany's Funke Mediengruppe has announced a partnership with SIGNA Holding GmbH, under which Signa will acquire a 49% share in WAZ Ausland Holding GmbH, which owns shares in Austrian newspapers Kronen Zeitung and Kurier.

* Germany-based data center e-shelter GmbH & Co. KG, a member of Nippon Telegraph & Telephone Corp.'s NTT Communications Corp., has provided direct access to the Google Cloud Platform via an installation at its campus in Frankfurt am Main. The Google Cloud Platform is operated by Alphabet Inc. unit Google LLC.

FRANCE

* The TF1 Group has acquired a majority stake in Olivier Goulon and Anthony Spinasse's Gamned!, which focuses on creating multichannel programmatic campaigns. This acquisition is part of a strategy to offer high-performance systems adapted to all advertisers' needs, working with TF1 Group's new digital activities.

* Orange SA Chairman and CEO Stéphane Richard has been elected chairman of the GSM Association's board, serving from January 2019 through December 2020. In this role, Richard will oversee the strategic direction of the industry organization, which represents mobile operators and other companies in the broader mobile ecosystem.

* Philippe Jannet has been appointed editorial director of L'Express and deputy managing director of Groupe L'Express. Under the guidance of Clément Delpirou, general manager of Altice Europe's press activities in France, and with Arthur Fouvez, deputy managing director of L'Express, Philippe Jannet, Anne Rosencher and Emma Defaud will announce the transformation plan for editorial development, growth and digital subscriptions for L'Express in December.

* French telecom regulator ARCEP introduced a new application to detect internet flow constraints. Developed by Northeastern University, Wehe allows individuals to contribute to net neutrality, feeding into ARCEP's monitoring work.

* Patrice Monti has been appointed director of sales and marketing at Agence France Presse SA. Currently deputy director of sales and marketing for AFP, Monti will replace Stéphane Marcovitch, effective Dec. 1.

NETHERLANDS, BELGIUM AND LUXEMBOURG

* T-Mobile Netherlands BV said it will stop its 2G mobile network on Nov. 15, 2020. Users of old 2G devices will then no longer be able to use T-Mobile's mobile services, and for other users, services will be provided via the telco's 3G or 4G network.

* T-Mobile Netherlands is considering launching a reference offer on VodafoneZiggo's cable network, Telecompaper reports. The Netherlands Authority for Consumers and Markets recently ruled that VodafoneZiggo has to open up its cable network due to joint dominance with KPN NV in the cable market, effective Jan. 1, 2019.

* Ziggo Sport has retained broadcasting rights to Formula 1 races up to and including the 2021 season, Nu.nl reports. Races, qualifiers and training events will reportedly be aired on Ziggo Sport and Ziggo Sport Totaal.

* Satellite operator Intelsat SA has been tapped by Vodacom Group Ltd. unit Vodacom Mozambique to provide a satellite solution for supporting the 3G services offered by the telco, in response to increasing demand from the country's tourism sector.

NORDIC COUNTRIES

* Accenture PLC acquired Swedish customer relationship management company Kaplan, according to a news release. The acquisition is part of Accenture's expansion efforts in the Nordics being carried out through the company's digital agency, Accenture Interactive.

* German media group S&L Medien Gruppe has sold its shares in post-production dubbing company Berliner Synchron GmbH to Swedish-based BTI Studios.

* Telenor ASA has formed a new technology partnership with Nordic Smart House A/S. Under the agreement, Telenor supply fiber and T-We streaming services to pre-fabricated modular smart home buildings constructed by NSH.

* Telia Co. AB repurchased more than 2.85 million of its own shares from Nov. 5 to Nov. 9. The acquisition forms part of Telia's share buyback program worth 5 billion Swedish kronor, which will run up to end-March 2019.

SOUTHERN EUROPE

* Peruvian digital services company Canvia bought Spanish prototyping services provider Ideafoster for an undisclosed sum, according to a news release. Canvia, formerly known as GMD SA, is owned by Advent International Corp. since June 2017.

* Turkish public broadcaster TRT has struck a deal with Indonesian free over-the-top service Oona that will allow the latter to carry international news channels TRT World and TRT Arabi, Broadband TV News reports.

EASTERN EUROPE

* Russian cybersecurity firm Group IB is opening a global headquarters in Singapore as part of its international expansion, Reuters reports, citing company CEO Ilya Sachkov. The company specializes in probing into high-tech crimes and online fraud, according to the report.

* Polish public broadcaster Telewizja Polska SA has launched its new English-language channel, Broadband TV News reports. Viewers will be able to watch the channel as a streaming service on Polandin.com, as well as on YouTube and Facebook.
