Cheniere allowed to introduce gas to 5th train at Sabine Pass export facility

The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission approved Cheniere Energy Inc. subsidiaries' request to introduce gas and start commissioning a fifth natural gas liquefaction train at the Sabine Pass LNG export facility in Louisiana.

FERC delivered the authorization in a May 25 notice. It allows the Cheniere companies Sabine Pass Liquefaction LLC and Sabine Pass LNG LP to test and commission the fifth train's fuel gas system. The fifth train, which like the four trains already in service has an LNG production capacity of roughly 0.7 Bcf/d, is expected to enter commercial service in 2019.

The first train at Cheniere Energy and Cheniere Energy Partners LP's Sabine Pass facility began exporting LNG cargoes in February 2016, with full commercial service authorized in May.

FERC approved the expansion of the export facility that included the fifth train in a certificate order in April 2015. (FERC dockets CP11-72, CP13-552)

Natural Gas Pipeline Co. of America LLC has applied to build a new compressor station that would boost the amount of natural gas its system can bring to Sabine Pass. (FERC docket CP18-487)
