Macy's Inc. said Oct. 21 that it will close its Fur Vaults and fur salons as part of its move to phase out sales of fur by the end of fiscal 2020.
The U.S. department store operator said fur will no longer be sold across its retail chains including Macy's off-price stores such as Macy's Backstage and Bloomingdale's The Outlet.
"Macy's private brands are already fur free so expanding this practice across all Macy's, Inc. is the natural next step," Chairman and CEO Jeff Gennette said.
The retailer said it has teamed up with the Humane Society of the United States in its move to end the sale of fur.
Gennette said the company will continue to provide faux fur alternatives to its customers.
Macy's move mirrors similar initiatives by Tapestry Inc.'s Coach brand, Capri Holdings Ltd., and Kering SA-owned Gucci, among others.
