Tesla Inc. has opened a construction company in Shanghai, China with a registered capital of $1 million, Reuters reported Oct. 1, citing a business registration filing on China's National Enterprise Information Publicity System.
The automaker listed its China head Zhu Xiaotong as the legal representative of the construction unit, whose scope includes architectural design, construction and building materials, the report added.
Tesla did not respond to requests for comment, Reuters said.
Tesla is building a gigafactory in Shanghai. The company rolled out its first Model 3 vehicle from the facility in September, eight months after construction on the site began.
