WEC Energy to acquire majority stake in Neb. wind farm for $338M

WEC Energy Group Inc. agreed to acquire an 80% ownership stake in the 300-MW Thunderhead Wind Farm in Nebraska for about $338 million.

The wind project is being developed by Invenergy LLC and will include 108 wind turbines delivered by General Electric Co. unit GE Renewable Energy, WEC Energy said in a Sept. 3 news release.

Output of the facility, expected to be in commercial operation by the end of 2020, will be sold to a Fortune 100 company under a long-term offtake agreement, WEC Energy said.

The deal is subject to necessary regulatory approvals. WEC Energy said the project is expected to be eligible for 100% bonus depreciation and production tax credits.
