An updated resource estimate for Flinders Mines Ltd.'s Pilbara iron ore property in Western Australia confirmed the potential to include lower-grade detrital material, the company said March 1.
The project hosts measured, indicated and inferred resources totaling 1.48 billion tonnes at an average 52.2% iron, using various cutoff grades related to ore type.
The analysis covers the Blacksmith and Anvil tenements and incorporates data from recent drilling and metallurgical work. Resources previously totaled 1.04 billion tonnes grading 55.6% iron, effective as of early 2015.
Flinders Mines, which is undertaking further detailed mine planning and process engineering work, now expects to be able to process low-grade detrital mineralization using a processing method that includes crushing, scrubbing, wet screening and dense media separation.
