State-owned oil and gas exploration and production company Pakistan Petroleum Ltd. announced Sept. 7 that an exploration well has discovered oil in the country's Chakwal district in the Punjab province.
The Talagang X-1 well, located in the Pakistan Petroleum-operated Karsal block, started drilling on May 24 and reached a depth of 3,675 meters before hitting a formation that was subject to testing. Initial results recorded oil with a flow rate of 313 barrels per day along with a minor immeasurable quantity of gas on a 32/64-inch choke.
Pakistan Petroleum plans to drill deeper into the formation in order to test the hydrocarbon potential in the secondary reservoirs.
The announcement follows two prior discoveries in the Sindh province made in August.
