U.S. department store Macy's Inc. said Oct. 16 that it rolled out virtual reality installations for its furniture selection to 70 more stores nationwide.
The company plans to launch the installations, where users can design rooms with Macy's furniture using virtual reality headsets, in 20 more stores in 2019.
The retailer added that virtual reality-influenced furniture sales increased by more than 60%, compared with regular furniture sales, in three pilot stores. Returns for the virtual reality-influenced products also fell to less than 2%.
The project was created in partnership with virtual reality company Marxent Labs LLC.
Macy's also launched on its app a feature called "See Your Space IRL," where users can virtually place furniture in their actual living spaces. The update is already available for iOS users and will be available on its Android app in 2019.
