Sony fiscal Q3 profit climbs YOY

Sony Corp. said its normalized net income for the fiscal third quarter ended Dec. 31, 2014, amounted to ¥70.61 per share, a gain from ¥29.27 per share in the year-earlier period.

Normalized net income, which excludes unusual gains or losses on a pre- and after-tax basis, was ¥82.55 billion, a gain from ¥34.21 billion in the prior-year period.

The normalized profit margin increased to 3.2% from 1.4% in the year-earlier period.

Total revenue climbed 6.5% year over year to ¥2.567 trillion from ¥2.411 trillion, and total operating expenses climbed from the prior-year period to ¥2.386 trillion from ¥2.324 trillion.

Reported net income rose on an annual basis to ¥89.97 billion, or ¥76.96 per share, from ¥26.39 billion, or ¥22.58 per share.
