Top Appalachian drillers stay optimistic even as NGL price cuts deepen

Some of the country's top oil and gas producers are adjusting their expectations and strategies amid a prevailing slump in natural gas liquids prices as they look forward to improvements in market conditions in the next few quarters. NGL spot prices continue to dip steadily to 40 cents per gallon and below, from just above $1 per gallon a year ago. This decline particularly affected Appalachian companies, which had been focusing on liquids production to take advantage of the previous price uplift, according to analysts at SunTrust Robinson Humphrey Inc.

Pa. court rules senator lacks standing to challenge Mariner East pipelines

Pennsylvania's second-highest appeals court told state regulators to dismiss a complaint and dissolve a petition for emergency relief lodged by Sen. Andrew Dinniman challenging the construction of Sunoco Pipeline LP's Mariner East pipeline system, citing a lack of legal standing. In a Sept. 9 opinion by President Judge Mary Hannah Leavitt, the three-judge panel ruled that Dinniman, a Democrat, failed to establish both personal and legislative standing to challenge the Energy Transfer LP subsidiary's pipelines.

Another sinkhole appears along Mariner East 2's Pa. route

Investigators with the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission are looking into a new sinkhole along the route of Sunoco Pipeline's Mariner East NGL pipeline system. The roughly swimming-pool-sized subsidence was in Middletown Township in Delaware County, near the eastern terminus of the Mariner East family of NGL pipelines.

Total, Hanwha JV boosts ethylene capacity at South Korea petchem complex

Total SA and Hanwha General Chemical Co. Ltd. joint venture Hanwha Total Petrochemical Co. Ltd. completed its expansion project to increase ethylene production by 30% at its Daesan integrated refining and petrochemicals complex in South Korea. The capacity expansion hiked ethylene production at the complex to 1.4 million tons per year, Total said in a Sept. 17 news release.
