Japan's trade balance yielded a surplus of ¥3.41 billion in February, provisional data from the Ministry of Finance showed.
Exports in February increased 1.8% to ¥6.463 trillion from the same period in 2017, while imports climbed an annual 16.5% to ¥6.460 trillion.
February exports to China, Japan's top trading partner, were down 9.7% year over year to ¥1.080 trillion. Imports from China, meanwhile, rose 39.2% during the month.
Shipments to Asia in February, which account for more than half of Japan's exports, declined an annual 3.2% to ¥3.376 trillion, while imports from the region grew 26.5% year over year.
Exports to the U.S. were up by 4.3% to ¥1.276 trillion from the year-ago period, while imports from the U.S. climbed 5.2% to ¥645.32 billion. Japan's trade surplus with the U.S. was up 3.4% in February.
As of March 15, US$1 was equivalent to ¥106.10.
