Westfield London to take spot as Europe's largest shopping center

Westfield London in White City, west London, is set to become the largest mall in Europe following the full completion of its £600 million, 740,000-square-feet expansion, according to a report by The (U.K.) Times.

Australia-listed Westfield Corp. and Commerzbank AG's Commerz Real are jointly carrying out the extension, which aims to increase the size of the retail asset to 2.6 million square feet, surpassing the Aviapark in Moscow and the Westgate shopping city in Zagreb, Croatia. Westfield's plans for the expansion also include the construction of 1,500 new homes, the March 20 report noted.

Department store chain John Lewis will anchor the expanded section with a four-level shop, which will cost approximately £33 million. Primark, H&M, West Elm, the White Company and Urban Revivo are to be among the 90 retailers to open outlets in the new section.

The expansion is being launched six months ahead of schedule and the shops will open in phases in the coming months, the Times added.
