Disney names new EMEA president; Telecom Italia chairman steps down

S&P Global Market Intelligence presents a weekly rundown of executive and board changes in the European technology, media and communications industries.

TOP MOVES

* Walt Disney Co. appointed Jan Koeppen president of the company's Europe, Middle East and Africa operations, effective Nov. 11. Koeppen succeeds Rebecca Campbell, who has been named Disneyland Resort president. He will be in charge of the company's direct-to-consumer, networks, media distribution and motion picture businesses, among operations across EMEA. Koeppen was previously president of Fox Networks Group Inc.'s European and African operations.

* Fulvio Conti stepped down as chairman and a director of Telecom Italia SpA. The company's board will meet Oct. 21 to discuss appointing a successor. Board member Michele Valensise will be the Italian telco's interim chairman.

MEDIA INDUSTRY MOVES

* The Premier League on Oct. 2 named David Pemsel its new CEO, effective April 2020. Pemsel is currently the CEO of Guardian Media Group PLC. Richard Masters, who had been serving as interim CEO, will be the managing director once Pemsel has joined the league.

* Laura Himmelreich will assume the role of deputy editor-in-chief of digital at German publisher Funke Mediengruppe GmbH & Co. KGaA, according to an Oct. 2 statement. Himmelreich was previously editor-in-chief of Vice.com.

* Advertising company WPP PLC appointed John Rogers its CFO, effective early in 2020, replacing Group Finance Director Paul Richardson, who is due to retire. Rogers, who is CEO of J Sainsbury PLC subsidiary Argos Ltd., will also join WPP's board next year. Previously, he was CFO of J Sainsbury from 2010 to 2016.

* The Beitragsservice by German public broadcasters ARD, ZDF (DE) and Deutschlandradio named IT head Joachim Altmann its new provisional director, according to an Oct. 1 news release. Altmann will succeed Claudia Seifert, who is set to retire.

* Mediengruppe RTL Deutschland GmbH promoted Marc Haberland to the role of director of its main business, Radioszene reported Oct. 1. Haberland was previously director of programming at RTL Radio Center Berlin.

* Carel Halff is stepping down as chairman of Cologne-based publisher Bastei Lübbe AG in end-2020, Handelsblatt reported Oct. 1. Halff will focus on managing his own consulting company founded five years ago.

* Audio-visual services company Videlio SA named Jean-Philippe Melet management board chairman, Boursier reported Oct. 1. Melet will replace David Chouraqui, who left the company to develop professional projects.

* Vivendi SA said Oct. 1 that it appointed Félicité Herzog director of strategy and innovation. Herzog previously held the roles of international development director for Dailymotion SA and independent director on Telecom Italia's board.

* Warner Bros. named Charlie Coleman senior vice president of marketing for EMEA, Deadline reported Sept. 30. Coleman was most recently vice president and managing director of franchise management for Disney's EMEA operations. Warner Bros. is a unit of AT&T Inc.'s Warner Media LLC.

* German production company Autentic GmbH named Isabelle Helle its new interim manager for distribution, DWDL reported Sept. 30. Meanwhile, Mirjam Strasser will become Autentic's marketing director.

* Vivendi-owned publishing group Editis SA named Michèle Benbunan its new CEO, according to a Sept. 30 news release. Benbunan, currently president and CEO of Presstalis SAS, will replace Pierre Conte who is leaving Editis.

* Online sports broadcaster DAZN Group named Stewart Walker executive vice president of global rights partnerships, Advanced Television reported Sept. 27. Walker previously led global media rights sales efforts for beIN SPORTS.

* Moonbug Entertainment Ltd. appointed former ProSiebenSat.1 Media SE executive Nicolas Eglau to head its EMEA business, Digital TV Europe reported. Eglau will be based in Moonbug's London office.

* The European Broadcasting Union said Sept. 26 that it named Liz Corbin deputy media director and head of news, effective January 2020. Corbin is joining the public broadcasters' alliance from the British Broadcasting Corp., where she is currently head of news for the BBC World News channel.

* Fox Networks Group executive Prentiss Fraser joined Endeavor Content as executive vice president for international TV sales, TBI Vision reported. Fraser will continue working in the U.K. as Endeavor plans to relocate its TV distribution operations to London.

* Media solutions provider Globecast France SAS promoted Shakunt Malhotra to managing director of Asia, according to a Sept. 26 news release. Prior to his promotion, Shakunt was the company's vice president of Asia operations.

COMMUNICATIONS INDUSTRY MOVES

* Telenor ASA executive Kim Krogh Andersen is joining Telstra Corp. Ltd. as group executive for product and technology, effective January 2020. Andersen is currently Telenor's senior vice president and head of global technology strategy.

* Dutch telecom operator KPN NV named a new CEO and CFO. Current KPN COO Joost Farwerck stepped in as CEO and management board chairman. The telco's supervisory board intends to appoint Farwerck for a four-year term, starting Dec. 1. Farwerck assumed the posts initially given to former Proximus chief Dominique Leroy, whose appointment was canceled amid a probe by Belgian authorities into her alleged insider trading activities. KPN also named Chris Figee CFO, effective Feb. 1, 2020. The current finance chief of insurance company ASR Nederland NV will replace Jan Kees de Jager, who is stepping down to focus on his entrepreneurial career. De Jager will remain on the management board until March 1, 2020, and will afterward become a company adviser. KPN is also expanding its management board to include executives holding key business, technology and people-related roles. From Dec. 1, the management board will include Jean-Pascal Van Overbeke, chief of the consumer market segment; Marieke Snoep, chief of the business market segment; Chief Technology and Digital Officer Babak Fouladi; and Chief People Officer Hilde Garssen.

* Guido Menzel resigned as a board member at Deutsche Telekom AG unit Magyar Telekom, Telecompaper reported Oct. 2.

* Polish data center service provider Beyond.pl Sp. z o.o. appointed Claes Meyer zu Allendorf as CEO, replacing Michal Grzybkowski, Telecompaper reported Oct. 2, citing Rpkom.pl. Grzybkowski will continue as a board member of the company.

* British Telecom appointed Andy Haworth to the newly created role of managing director of sports rights and commercial, Advanced Television reported Sept. 27. BT also named Cindy Varga managing director of strategy and transformation for its consumer division.

* Turkish operator Turkcell Iletisim Hizmetleri AŞ named four executive vice presidents, Telecompaper reported Sept. 27. Ömer Barbaros Yiş will be responsible for marketing, while Ataç Tansuğ will lead digital services and solutions. Ceyhun Özata will lead corporate and residential sales, while Kadri Özdal is taking charge of consumer sales.
