QBE European Operations Plc named Rob Byerly director of financial lines in the U.K., responsible for financial lines portfolios in the country and the oversight of professional indemnity, cyber and legal expenses teams.

Byerly was vice president of directors and officers liability at QBE North America.

QBE European Operations and QBE North America are parts of QBE Insurance Group Ltd.

Managing general agency elseco Ltd. added Robert Rider and Raghd Coussa to its new terrorism insurance unit, The Insurance Insider reported.

Rider, who worked as a senior underwriter for political violence and terrorism at Travelers Cos. Inc., will be leading the team based in Dubai. Coussa served as an underwriter for upstream energy and political violence at Talbot Underwriting Ltd.


Warburg Pincus LLC-backed McGill & Partners appointed Brian Kirwan to a senior role at the new brokerage owned by former Aon PLC President Steve McGill, The Insurance Insider reported, citing sources.

Kirwan, formerly the U.K. CEO at Allianz Global Corporate & Specialty SE, will be the head of the structured solutions division, according to the report.


United Fire Group Inc. Senior Vice President and CFO Dawn Jaffray was elected executive vice president, effective May 15.

Scott Bailey, Kathleen Goldsmith, Ward Johnson, Sarah Madsen, James Moen, Casey Prince and Steve Watters were all elected as assistant vice presidents at United Fire Group subsidiary United Fire & Casualty Co.


HDI Global Specialty SE, a joint venture of Hannover Re and HDI Global SE, named Martin Jackson head of aviation and space in London, according to a news release obtained by S&P Global Market Intelligence.

Jackson, formerly a class underwriter for marine and transport at Neon Underwriting Ltd., succeeds Tim Slade at HDI Global.


HSB Engineering Insurance Ltd. appointed Paula Homan director of engineering services.

Homan will be leading HSB's engineering inspection division in the U.K. and Ireland. She served as director of claims at HomeServe PLC.


Beazley PLC named Cal Spessard head of claims for its environmental liability business.

Spessard replaces Larry Griffin, who assumed the role of head of claims for the company's professions business. Spessard worked as director for claims and litigation services at environmental risk management specialist WCD Group LLC.


Sompo International Holdings Ltd. appointed Udo Pützer head of financial lines insurance for Germany in its European insurance platform.

Pützer will also serve as underwriting manager for the team based in Düsseldorf, Germany. He will also be working with the specialized M&A insurance underwriting team in Barcelona.

Pützer worked as head of field underwriting for financial lines at Amlin Insurance SE.


Three executives of Hilb Group LLC died in a plane crash near Roatán, Honduras, the Insurance Journal reported.

New England regional leader Rob Miller, Tri-State regional leader Brad Post and Mid-Atlantic regional leader Rick Tepel were traveling together on a personal fishing trip to Honduras, according to the report, citing a Hilb Group spokesperson.

Miller was also managing director at Dowling & O'Neil Insurance Agency Inc., and Tepel served as managing director of Raley Watts & O'Neill.
