Portland General Electric Co. is seeking suggestions to improve its draft request for proposals for 100 MWa of renewable power generating resources.
Under the request, the company is looking for bids with a minimum size of at least 10 MW and that can represent a variety of technologies, including geothermal, biomass, biogas, solar, wind and hydroelectric power. The bids could be in the form of power purchase agreements or proposals for facilities PGE would own and operate.
The acquired resources are expected to be included in the company's portfolio in the 2020 to 2021 time frame. PGE said it may acquire a single resource or a mix of resources to achieve its desired renewable energy target.
"This request for proposals for renewable energy will be an open, competitive process to assure we are able to identify the best options to expand our renewable portfolio while keeping electric service affordable and reliable for our customers," PGE President and CEO Maria Pope said in a March 1 statement.
Under Oregon's renewable portfolio standard, the company must supply 50% of its customers' electricity needs from qualifying renewable sources by 2040.
PGE will hold workshops for stakeholders at 10 a.m. PT and for potential bidders at 1 p.m. PT on March 2.
The final request for proposals will be issued in the spring. Bates White, an independent evaluator, will monitor the procurement process.
