Ford names president for Changan Ford China joint venture

Ford Motor Co. on Aug. 22 named Steven Armstrong, currently chairman of its European subsidiary, as president of its Changan Ford Automobile Corp. Ltd. joint venture in China, effective Oct. 1.

Changan Ford is a joint venture between the Dearborn, Mich.-based carmaker and China's Chongqing Changan Automobile Co. Ltd.

Armstrong will succeed Nigel Harris, who will work with the new president through the transition. Harris will remain in an advisory role at Changan Ford and support the company's China-focused strategy, dubbed Ford China 2.0, until he retires at the end of 2019.

Armstrong will report to Ford China president and CEO Anning Chen.

Before the appointment, Armstrong was president and chairman of Ford of Europe, Middle East and Africa; president of Ford South America; and COO of Getrag-Ford Transmissions.

Ford also operates a local joint venture with Chinese carmaker Jiangling Motors Corp. Ltd. According to S&P Global Market Intelligence data, Ford owns 32% of Jiangling Motors, second only to principal investment firm Nanchang Jiangling Dingsheng Investment Management Co. Ltd., which holds more than 41%.
