Japan current account surplus down 23.4% YOY in August

Japan posted a current account surplus of ¥1.838 trillion in August from ¥2.010 trillion in July. The figure was down from ¥2.401 trillion in August 2017, preliminary data from the country's Ministry of Finance showed.

Exports edged up 7.6% year over year to ¥6.653 trillion following a 6.2% increase in the previous month. Imports rose by 17.5% year over year to ¥6.872 trillion in August following a 16.6% rise in July.

The country posted a goods trade deficit of ¥219.3 billion in August from a trade deficit of ¥1 billion in the prior month.

As of Oct. 8, US$1 was equivalent to ¥113.13.
