Netflix expands mobile plan to Indonesia, testing longer plans in India

Netflix Inc. rolled out its mobile-only plan to more markets in Asia with a launch in Indonesia.

Priced at 49,000 rupiah per month, the plan will allow Indonesian subscribers to access Netflix content on mobile devices, such as smartphones or tablets. The new plan is an addition to the company's existing basic, standard and premium plans in the country.

Netflix's mobile streaming plan was first introduced to Indian users in July. It was then launched in Malaysia in October, making Indonesia the third Asian country to get the mobile-only plan.

The video streaming platform is also testing longer subscription plans in India, which will allow new users to choose from three-month, six-month and 12-month plans with discounts of up to 50%, Reuters reported, citing people familiar with the matter.

A spokeswoman for Netflix India confirmed the test to Reuters, saying: "We believe that our members may value the flexibility that comes from being able to pay for a few months at once. As always, this is a test and we will only introduce it more broadly if people find it useful."

As of Dec. 11, US$1 was equivalent to 14,035.00 Indonesian rupiah.
