Judge rejects JPMorgan motion to dismiss racial discrimination-related suit

U.S. District Judge Sean Cox rejected 's motion todismiss a lawsuit related to alleged racial discrimination, Reuters reportedJuly 21.

An Arab-American family filed a lawsuit against the bank inFebruary, alleging that the bank closed their accounts without explanation in2014 and terminated a contract with their business in 2015 while saying NajahManni posed a reputational risk. The family is seeking damages for defamationand violations of Michigan's Civil Rights Act and the U.S. Equal CreditOpportunity Act, according to the report.

JPMorgan had argued that there was no evidence ofdiscrimination and that it was allowed through its deposit agreements toterminate accounts for any reason or no reason at any time. Reuters quoted aJPMorgan spokesman as saying the case and discrimination allegations arewithout merit. Attorney for the family wasunavailable for comment.
