Younicos recommissions 36-MW Texas battery storage system for Duke

Younicos AG on Dec. 12 said it has recommissioned a 36-MW battery storage system at Duke Energy Renewables Inc.'s 153-MW Notrees Windpower project in Ector County, Texas.

The company replaced previously deployed lead-acid technology with advanced Samsung SDI lithium-ion batteries, which will maximize the discharge duration and enable an accelerated service delivery in Electric Reliability Council of Texas' fast response regulation services market.

"Investing in updated technology will extend the life of the project, enhance performance and reliability, and expand the value it provides to the ERCOT market," said Jeff Wehner, vice president operations at Duke Energy Renewables, a Duke Energy Corp. subsidiary.
