Takeda-Shire deal gets approval from Japan Fair Trade Commission

Takeda Pharmaceutical Co. Ltd. said the Japan Fair Trade Commission granted unconditional clearance to its £46 billion takeover of Dublin-based biotech Shire PLC.

The deal previously received regulatory approvals in the U.S., China and Brazil. Meanwhile, the European Commission will decide whether to approve the acquisition Nov. 6.

Closing of the transaction is still subject to certain other conditions, including remaining regulatory clearances and approvals from both companies' shareholders.
