United Airlines Holdings Inc. expects to register a special noncash impairment charge of $90 million related to its Hong Kong routes in the fourth quarter of 2019 as monthslong political and social unrest weighs on travel demand in the city.
The airline said the value of its Hong Kong routes "had been fully impaired" due to a decrease in demand for the market and the resulting decline in unit revenue.
The company's fourth-quarter and full-year 2019 financial results are due after market close Jan. 21.
