India's Reliance Communications Ltd. has let go of more than 600 employees, The Economic Times of India reported April 8, citing people familiar with the matter.
The layoffs, which reportedly include middle and senior managers, come amid RCom's pending merger with Aircel Ltd., a subsidiary of Maxis Berhad
The Indian wireless services agreed in September 2016 to merge their operations. Once the deal closes, the merged entity will have India's second-largest spectrum holding, including 2G, 3G and 4G operations.
Reliance Anil Dhirubhai Ambani Group is the parent company of RCom.
