Polish mobile operator Play Communications SA plans to roll out a 5G network that would cover the entire city of Gdynia, Reuters reported, citing a statement by CEO Jean-Marc Harion.
Play is waiting for approval from telecom regulator Urząd Komunikacji Elektronicznej to launch the 5G network. The telco will use equipment from China's Huawei Technologies Co. Ltd. for the next-generation mobile network.
The company also revealed plans to build 800 more base stations in 2020, according to Reuters.
One of Play's rival operators, Cyfrowy Polsat SA unit Polkomtel Sp zoo, earlier started its launch of its commercial 5G service, which will be delivered with the help of equipment from Nokia Corp. and Ericsson. Other telcos, such as Orange Polska SA and T-Mobile Polska SA, chose to retain their respective tie-ups with Huawei despite a 5G security accord between Poland and the U.S.
