Kuwait names 1st female finance minister of gulf in new cabinet announcement

Kuwait picked Mariam Al-Aqeel as finance minister in the newly appointed Prime Minister Sabah Al-Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah's cabinet, state-run Kuwait News Agency, or KUNA, reported.

Al-Aqeel, will be the first female to hold the post in the gulf region, and one of her responsibilities will be to run Kuwait's sovereign wealth fund, according to Bloomberg News.

The new government is expected to serve for less than a year. Kuwait will hold parliamentary elections in 2020, Bloomberg said.
