EBay launches handbag authentication service

eBay Inc. on Oct. 16 rolled out eBay Authenticate, an authentication service for shoppers and sellers of luxury handbags on the online marketplace.

Using the service, sellers can list handbags and wallets priced at more than $500 and receive 80% of the final sale price when they sell handbags from 12 luxury brands, including Chanel, Valentino, Goyard, Burberry Group Plc, Prada SpA, Christian Dior SE, Hermès International Société en commandite par actions, Kering SA's Balenciaga and Gucci, and LVMH Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton SE's Céline, Fendi and Louis Vuitton.

Handbags listed with an "authenticity verified" label are backed by a 200% money-back guarantee, eBay said.

The company added that it will expand the service in 2018 to include more products and categories.
