S&P Global Market Intelligence presents a rundown of board changes in the U.S. technology, media and communications industries.
* Sprint Corp. appointed Stephen Kappes as a director, effective May 31. Kappes will be a member of the compensation committee. He also will serve as security director under the national security agreement among the company, SoftBank Group Corp. and the U.S. justice, homeland security and defense departments, according to a May 30 SEC filing. Kappes has been a director of two wholly owned units of Sprint since July 2013, including serving on the company's government security committee.
* Former Media General Inc. chief Vincent Sadusky will succeed Randy Falco as CEO of Univision Communications Inc., effective June 1. Sadusky, who most recently served as president and CEO of Media General from 2014 to 2017, will also become a member of Univision's board of directors.
* Saga Communications Inc. increased the size of its board to seven members. Warren Lada, who will retire as Saga Communications' COO at the end of June, was named to the company's board.
* Roku Inc. stockholders at the company's annual meeting elected Mai Fyfield to the board of directors. Fyfield has been chief strategy officer and chief commercial officer of Sky PLC's Sky Group since 2015 and has served in various roles at Sky since 1999. Fyfield served as a Roku board observer from 2014 until the company's IPO in 2017.
* James Butman was elected to Telephone and Data Systems Inc.'s board at the company's annual shareholders meeting, effective May 24, by the holders of the series A common shares. Butman fills the directorship previously held by David Wittwer, former president and CEO of TDS Telecom, whose director term expired May 24. Butman serves as president and CEO of TDS Telecom.
* Wayfair Inc. named Andrea Jung, the former chairman and CEO of Avon Products Inc., to the company's board. Jung currently serves as president and CEO of Grameen America.
* McClatchy Co. shareholders on May 17 elected 12 directors to one-year terms. Shareholders elected Anjali Joshi, who has served as a board member since July 2017, as a new class A director and also re-elected Maria Thomas and Elizabeth Ballantine as class A directors. Class B shareholders elected Vijay Ravindran, who has served as a board member since January 2018, and Clyde Ostler, who served as a class A director for five years, as a new class B directors. Leroy Barnes Jr., Molly Maloney Evangelisti, Craig Forman, Brown McClatchy Maloney, Kevin McClatchy, William McClatchy and Theodore Mitchell were re-elected as class B directors.
