Netflix Inc. is facing an investigation in Italy over tax evasion charges, Reuters reported, citing a source.
Prosecutors reportedly said the U.S. streaming giant should pay taxes in Italy due to the digital infrastructure it uses to stream content, which it said is equivalent to having a physical presence in the country.
The prosecutors opened the probe due to the size of the alleged tax evasion, following checks done by Italian tax police, the source told Reuters.
Italian prosecutors previously investigated Alphabet Inc. unit Google LLC, Apple Inc., Amazon.com Inc. and Facebook Inc. for avoiding taxes.
