Viridity Energy Solutions Inc. broke ground on two 20-MW/20-MWh standalone battery energy storage projects in New Jersey.
The Ormat Technologies Inc. subsidiary acquired the projects from energy technology and solutions provider Amergin Energy and private equity firm Akula Energy Ventures LLC in January, according to a June 14 news release. The projects are located in Plumsted Township and Alpha Borough and will be interconnected with Jersey Central Power & Light Co. transmission grid.
The projects will provide real-time frequency regulation and ancillary services to the PJM Interconnection when they enter operation in late 2018.
Viridity and its parent Ormat are providing project engineering, procurement and construction services for the projects.
