Siemens AG on April 4 secured FERC approval to acquire 59% of the outstanding voting securities of Gamesa Corporación Tecnológica SA, which owns the 80-MW Pocahontas Prairie wind farm in Pocahontas County, Iowa.
Following the transaction, the wind farm with be 59% indirectly owned by Siemens, 8.1% by Iberdrola SA and 32.9% by individual shareholders.
The wind facility is interconnected to the transmission system owned by Berkshire Hathaway Inc. subsidiary MidAmerican Energy Co. and operated by Midcontinent ISO. Pocahontas sells energy, capacity, and ancillary services at market-based rates.
The companies filed their application with the commission on Feb. 17. (FERC docket EC17-81)
