Honda Motor Co. Ltd. posted record-high January worldwide vehicle production, though the company's output declined in Japan.
The automaker's worldwide vehicle production grew 14.6% year over year in January at 472,995 units. Production outside Japan was also a record high for the month with 411,302 units, a 17.6% increase. However, the company produced 61,693 units in Japan, a 1.9% decline from the previous-year period.
Production numbers in China grew the most in January with a 33.4% jump in production. Production in the U.S. and North America grew by 10.1% and 9.2% respectively. Total production in Asia spiked 26.5% for the month. Regions characterized as "others" by the company posted 20.9% higher production, while Europe recorded a 5.8% increase.
Honda's monthly exports from Japan during January increased by 83.9%. This gain marked the first year-over-year increase in monthly exports in eight months. A total of 9,018 units were exported from Japan during January.
