Telecom Italia, Mediaset to resume content deal talks

The board of directors of Telecom Italia SpA approved a proposal to resume negotiations with Mediaset SpA by majority vote.

The Italian operator aims to finalize a new and multiyear agreement with Mediaset, which is expected to take effect in 2018.

Under the agreement, Mediaset would provide linear and on-demand content to Telecom Italia customers through the TIMVISION platform, which can be accessed via decoders, smart TVs, web browsers or mobile app.

Telecom Italia's board also approved for management to negotiate the acquisition of rights on away matches of the 2017/2018 Serie A soccer league, the 2018 UEFA Champions League and other international soccer matches from Mediaset Premium.

The company's joint venture with Vivendi SA's Canal Plus Group SA has also been approved by Telecom Italia's board following amendments made to the agreement.
