Report: AT&T, Viacom carriage deal still in effect as renewal talks continue

AT&T Inc. and Viacom Inc. are still in talks over a new carriage contract, unnamed sources told Reuters.

MTV (US), Nickelodeon/Nick At Nite (US), Comedy Central (US) and other Viacom channels were still available in AT&T's DIRECTV satellite TV service as of early March 23, despite the previous carriage contract between the two companies expiring midnight of the previous day, the news wire wrote. The sources said, however, that it remains unclear if a new deal could be reached.

Viacom recently warned DIRECTV subscribers that they might lose access to its 23 networks.

The two media giants previously pledged to renew the carriage agreement, but criticized each others' tactics and motives. AT&T representatives reportedly said many Viacom networks were no longer popular with its subscriber base.
