GE Renewable Energy to install 12-MW turbine prototype in Netherlands

GE Renewable Energy and Future Wind have signed an agreement to test the 12-MW wind turbine prototype designed by the General Electric Co. subsidiary on the shores of Rotterdam, Netherlands.

The agreement includes five years of testing and 15 years of full operation and maintenance services. The onshore site has been selected for access to the turbine by GE Renewable Energy to collect data needed to obtain a type certificate. The company plans to commercialize the turbine in 2021.

Future Wind will install the prototype in the summer of 2019, according to a Jan. 16 news release.

Future Wind is a joint venture between Pondera Development LLC and SIF Holding Netherlands.
