FremantleMedia acquires 35% stake in soccer media company

FremantleMediaLtd. has acquired a holding of almost 35% in London-based soccer mediacompany Squawka for an undisclosed sum, according to an April 27 statement.

Squawka, founded in 2012 by Sanjit Atwal and Leo Harrison, producessoccer-related content for social media and other digital platforms.

The investment is expected to complement The Football Republic,a network of seven multiplatform fan channels operated by FremantleMedia's digital studio Shotglass Media. The latter and TFR will work together in terms ofstrategy, talent sharing and branding initiatives.

FremantleMedia has options to boost its stake in Squawka in thefuture. The RTL Groupunit earlier bought amajority stake in European multichannel network Divimove, as part of its investmentsin digital media.
