MHI Vestas to open US headquarters in Boston

MHI Vestas Offshore Wind A/S is expanding its footprint in the U.S. with the establishment of a headquarters in Boston, Mass., the company announced Jan. 11.

The office will initially focus on sales and strategy and will be led by Jason Folsom, the company's U.S. national sales director.

MHI Vestas' first project in the U.S. will be the 800-MW Vineyard Offshore Wind Project slated for installation in 2021. Once operational, the facility is expected to produce enough wind power for 450,000 homes in Massachusetts.

Vineyard Wind LLC selected MHI Vestas Offshore Wind A/S to supply turbines for the offshore wind project. Vineyard Wind is a joint venture of Avangrid Renewables LLC and Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners K/S.

In 2017, MHI Vestas outlined plans to open a North American office and invested $35 million for Clemson University to test and verify a 9.5-MW turbine with a 164-meter rotor.

MHI Vestas is a joint venture between Vestas Wind Systems A/S and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Ltd.
