Innogy SE has put its plans to construct a 374-MW wind project in Ohio on hold, a spokesperson for the company told S&P Global Market Intelligence.
Two subsidiaries of Innogy-owned EverPower Wind Holdings Inc. have withdrawn environmental permits that had been issued for the Buckeye Wind Project in Champaign County, with the sponsor running out of time to begin constructing the facility.
"Buckeye Wind LLC and Champaign Wind LLC have relinquished the Certificates of Environmental Compatibility and Public Need issued for the planned Buckeye facility as construction activities have not commenced as required under the certificates," Viola Baumann, a spokesperson for Innogy in Germany, said in an emailed statement.
Buckeye Wind has notified the Ohio Power Siting Board of the withdrawal, according to a report on website National Wind Watch. The report cited a protracted approvals process and prolonged litigation, both sparked by organized opposition to the project, as factors leading to this decision.
Essen, Germany-based Innogy acquired Buckeye as part of its 2018 purchase of Everpower, which owned upwards of 2,000 MW of wind assets in the U.S.
