Nuclear update: Total availability rises as River Bend 1 increases output

Total U.S. nuclear plant availability ramped up early March 8 to 91.26%, up from 90.63% on March 7 and still greater than the 88.94% reported on the same day in 2017.

Providing a boost to total production was increased output at the recently restarted Entergy Corp.'s River Bend 1 in Louisiana. The plant was pegged at 82% power early March 8, rising from 14% on March 7.

In addition, private sources indicate that Dominion Energy Inc.'s North Anna 1 in Virginia may be shut over the next few days for a refueling outage. The unit was at 93% power as of early March 8.

Eight units across the U.S. are offline as of early March 8.
