Report: Telia eyes Denmark's TDC

Swedish operator Telia Co. AB is considering a bid for Denmark's TDC A/S, Reuters reported Jan. 19, citing financial daily Dagens Industri.

In case an agreement pushes through, Telia would likely finance the deal via a share rights issue, according to the report. It would reportedly become the largest-ever purchase made by a listed Swedish firm, with Telia and TDC having market capitalization of 159 billion Swedish kronor and 30 billion kronor, respectively.

The Swedish government holds a 37% stake in Telia.

TDC previously sold its Swedish unit TDC Sweden to Tele2 Sweden.

As of Jan. 19, US$1 was equivalent to 8.99 Swedish kronor.
