Greek bank ELA cap falls to €19.8B

The European Central Bank's Governing Council did not object to a Bank of Greece SA request to reduce the limit on emergency liquidity assistance available to Greek banks by €2.2 billion to €19.8 billion.

The Greek central bank said the reduction reflects "an improvement of the liquidity situation of Greek banks, taking into account flows stemming from private sector deposits and from the banks' access to wholesale financial markets."

The reduction is the latest in the series of cuts in the ELA ceiling, which dropped to €24.8 billion in December 2017 and to €22 billion the following month.
