Santos to explore new offshore acreage near Dorado field

Australia-based Santos Ltd. was awarded a new permit to explore an area in the Northern Carnarvon Basin offshore Western Australia.

The WA-541-P permit covers 6,964 square kilometers and is on trend with the nearby Dorado discovery, according to a Sept. 27 news release from Santos.

Santos CEO and Managing Director Kevin Gallagher said the company remains committed to keeping its role as a top gas producer in Western Australia.

Santos will serve as project operator with a 50% stake, while BP PLC will hold the other 50%.
