Insurance moves: Validus reorganizes business; FM Global forms innovation team

S&P Global Market Intelligence presents a weekly rundown of selected executive management and other personnel moves in the insurance industry. The changes are listed by announcement date in reverse chronological order.

Dec. 13

Prime Risk Partners Inc. has appointed Robert Smith as executive vice president and COO. He most recently served as COO of a regional company in the southwestern U.S.

Ironshore Inc.'s senior vice president of reinsurance, Andrew Archambault, is retiring, The Insurance Insider reported. Archambault is reportedly leaving at the end of the year.

Dec. 12

Auto-Owners Insurance Co. Chairman and CEO Jeff Harrold is retiring from the company and its affiliates, Insurance Journal reported. Jeffrey Tagsold will succeed Harrold as chairman and CEO. Tagsold currently holds the president and COO roles at Auto-Owners. Daniel Thelen, who is currently executive vice president, will become president of Auto-Owners and its affiliates. Carolyn Muller, currently senior vice president of claims, will become executive vice president.

CNA Financial Corp. named Tom Allen vice president of its Boston branch. Allen is joining the company from American International Group Inc.'s property and casualty division, where he most recently worked as managing director for the Boston region.

HCI Group Inc. named Karin Coleman executive vice president. Coleman has headed the company's corporate services department since 2009.

Devin Blazier joined Alliant Insurance Services Inc.'s Alliant Americas division as senior vice president. Prior to joining Alliant, Blazier was senior vice president at the New Jersey office of a national insurance and financial services organization.

Royal Neighbors of America named Susan Cotter chief marketing officer. Cotter has held senior marketing and product roles at companies including Colonial Life and AIG.

Dec. 11

The Hartford Financial Services Group Inc. has expanded the role of Stephanie Bush to include oversight for personal lines. Bush rejoined The Hartford in 2013 as chief product and underwriting officer for small commercial and was promoted to lead the business in 2014. She will continue in that role. In adding oversight for personal lines, Bush replaces Ray Sprague, who is retiring.

Global Bankers Insurance Group LLC has hired Mike Farley as chief actuary. Farley succeeds Scott Boug, who became president and chief actuary of Global Bankers' Bermuda operations, including Private Bankers Life and Annuity Co. Ltd. Farley comes to the company after most recently working as CFO and chief operations officer for Munich Re's U.S. health business.

Oklahoma-based independent insurance agency INSURICA named Mark Bridges regional president for Texas, Insurance Journal reported. Bridges is currently president of INSURICA DFB Insurance Services Inc., formerly known as DFB Insurance Group LLC. He will continue to be based out of INSURICA's Amarillo, Texas, office, according to the report.

Dec. 8

Validus Holdings Ltd. has announced several leadership appointments as it reorganized its segments. Kean Driscoll was appointed global head of reinsurance, in addition to his roles as president of Validus Holdings and CEO of Validus Reinsurance Ltd. Peter Bilsby will serve as global head of insurance in addition to his current role as CEO of the Talbot Group, while AlphaCat Managers Ltd. CEO Lixin Zeng will assume additional responsibilities as the global head of asset management business. Validus appointed Jonathan Ritz president of Western World Insurance Group Inc. Ritz will retain his current role as CEO of Validus Specialty.

Erie Insurance is promoting Dionne Wallace Oakley to executive vice president of human resources and strategy. Wallace Oakley joined the company in 2011 as vice president of HR business partners.

Healthplex Inc. named Christopher Schmidt to be president and CEO. Schmidt worked previously as COO and succeeds Sharon Zelkind, the former president and co-CEO, who retired.

XL Catlin's head of international M&A insurance, Richard Winborn, has left the company after less than nine months on the job, The Insurance Insider reported. Winborn was hired in April to manage the company's M&A portfolio in Europe, the Middle East, Africa and Asia-Pacific regions. His next destination is unknown, according to the report. XL Catlin is the global brand used by XL Group Ltd insurance and reinsurance companies.

Dec. 7

Much of Ironshore's representations and warranties M&A staff for the Americas has left the company and joined a managing general agent startup at Ascot, Insurance Insider reported, citing sources. Among the departures was Navine Aggarwal, who led the M&A team at Ironshore.

FM Global has appointed four to its newly formed innovation team. The company named Vincent Reyda senior vice president and manager of innovation implementation. He most recently was senior vice president and division manager of the Europe, Middle East and Africa division. FM Global named Ronnie Gibson vice president of innovation business and insurance. Gibson was most recently manager of brand experience in the company. Balaji Purushothaman was named vice president of innovation data and digital. Previously, Purushothaman was principal enterprise architect. Jaap de Vries has joined as vice president of innovation science and technology. De Vries most recently was lead research scientist.
