Brazilian mall landlord BR Malls Participações SA partnered with and acquired a noncontrolling stake in local technology company Delivery Center, which aims to provide brick-and-mortar store owners with online capabilities.
Delivery Center's platform offers online customers access to products from malls, along with a same-day or same-hour delivery service, by using shopping malls as distribution centers.
BR Malls noted that it has been working with the tech company over the last 12 months, adding that its investment, details of which were not disclosed, has helped to drive the platform's implementation in malls. Delivery Center, which operates in Brazil's Porto Alegre, plans to start operating in malls Rio de Janeiro over the next few weeks, with further expansion to other cities planned for the future.
BR Malls has a portfolio of 39 malls in Brazil, according to a release.
