Uber Technologies Inc. and Axa have entered into a partnership to provide European drivers and couriers operating with Uber a range of coverage, on and off the road.
The ride-sharing company's independent-partner drivers and couriers will bear no cost for this program, which covers major costs or lost income as a result of events ranging from an injury or accident while driving to jury duty or serious illness as well as paternity and maternity leave needs. To qualify for the "off trip" product, a driver must have 150 completed trips in the preceding eight weeks, while a courier must have at least 30 completed deliveries in the last eight weeks.
The cover will be offered to more than 150,000 independent partners from June 1 in 18 western and eastern European countries, including the U.K., Germany and Poland.
Axa and Uber also signed a memorandum of understanding to build a digital marketplace for partner drivers and couriers. Through the digital platform, individuals will be able to configure their own coverage needs.
